"Journey To A Dream"
In 1963 a family from California packed their belongings and set off for an adventure - to homestead in the Alaska Bush. Mary Lovel has reached back through the years and has put her thoughts and memories down on paper and has published her book, "Journey To A Dream". According to Ms. Lovel; "My book is the true story of my family, myself, my husband, Clyde and our four children, Shelley, Bud, Debbie and Lisa. It describes our dream of homesteading land in the Alaska wilderness and takes place in the sixties when we packed up all our belongings, sold everything and moved to Alaska.
The book describes our journey and all the things that happened along the way. It covers our search for somewhere to live while we were trying to find land to homestead, our ordeal with the Good Friday Earthquake in 1964 and our many adventures after finding our land to homestead and living in the wilderness with wild animals, bears, moose and wolves."
When asked to describe the family's experience during the Good Friday Earthquake (which occurred just nine months after the family moved to Alaska) Mrs Lovel said, "On my website I have included that chapter of my book, so I urge readers to go to the website. But I will tell you that the worst part of that whole ordeal was finding out that, in the first month after the quake, both our families in California and Missouri thought we were all dead. All the news told them was that Anchorage was gone and everyone was dead."
After purchasing a copy of the book, a reader wrote:
"I just came back from my first trip to Alaska. It was a dream come true! Buying this book helped complete the picture of what I was seeing during my trip. I really loved the book and I was so happy to find out that she is writing the second book."
