Wasilla is on the Map!
Although the race for Vice President (and President) of the United States is over, interst in Wasilla has not waned. People continue to look for current, accurate information about all aspects of our community.
Wasilla is much more than a small town on the road to Denali National Park. It is one of the fastest growing communities in the US, a developing economic powerhouse in the Mat-Su Valley. Yet it retains its small town feel. Celebrities stand in line with residents at the local stores and talk about the weather or who will win the high school football championship this year. Businesses are often run by locals, and our community events are well attended.
The goal of this website is to publish articles covering everything and anything of interest about Wasilla. Look for stories on getting fit, getting away from it all, or getting a cup of coffee. There will even be interviews with local authors and business owners. From the Iditarod restart to the summer Saturday Market, there is much that is interesting, fun and wonderful about our community.
Welcome to the world, Wasilla!

Mt Redoubt Erupts! (and then keeps on erupting...)
As of March 27, 2009 Mt Redoubt continues to shower the Cook Inlet and South Central Alaska with ash ejected into the atmosphere as high as 65,000 feet. Aviation has been impacted most with temporary airport closures and flight restrictions. When the ash falls, it tends to land mainly up the Susitna Valley. Trapper Creek seems to have received more than its fair share, while most of the Valley has received only a very light dusting.
The first eruption began at approximately 10:40 PM on Sunday March 23, 2009, and was followed in quick succession by three more major eruptions by late Monday afternoon. The quiet that followed did not last, however, as Redoubt began shaking again and erupted several hours later. Redoubt has erupted at least once every 24 hour period since the 23rd. Experts do not know when the volcano will settle down, so locals continue to watch and wait. For the most current and accurate information on Redoubt and all of the other Alaska volcanoes, go to the source: http://www.avo.alaska.edu/activity/Redoubt.php
