Frequently Asked Questions
- What does it cost to become a Zip Code Manager? Nothing
(or very little). There is no fee for you to become a ZCM,
just fill out the worlds easiest job application, click submit,
and wait for your welcome package. You might have a small
expense for printing business cards, but there are some creative
ways
to get around those costs. You can offer to trade an article
on the site and a couple months of running an ad for the
cost of printing business cards at your local quick print
place.
Be creative!
- Is there anything I cannot publish on my site? Yes.
This is a family site. No Adult content allowed. If your
grandmother
reading it would embarrass you, you probably should not
use it on the site. Also, this is not a forum to run
down the
USA. If you want to criticize the United States, please
seek another forum for your thoughts.
- Can I “have” more than one zip
code? Yes.
Just show me that you have gotten your zip code nailed down
and
give me a list of additional zip codes you want to manage.
If they are available, they are yours.
- Does anyone visit this
site? Yes! The best measure of traffic to
a web site is the number of “Page Views.” According
to our server log, we had 533,129 page views in December
2009. We have increased traffic every month since October
2008. Every month we do a Traffic Report that shows how
many page views every zip code site has received during
that month.
The document has gotten so large that I now send a link
so you can download the document when you get a chance.
Most
email accounts have a problem with a 2600 page document
(December’s
Traffic Report).
- How do people find the web site? We
are actively searched by most of the big search engines.
For
example, Google
searches out site about every 16 minutes (2,663
visits from Google
in December 2009). For the first 17 days of January,
Google has visited 4,782 times ~ 782 visits/ 402 hours
= 1 visit
every 5 minutes.
In addition, every time a new ZCM signs
up, I hand submit that specific site to 15-20 search engines.
I also monitor
all active sites and resubmit sites as soon as I see
new content on the site.
More importantly is your impact on traffic to the
site. If you interview a member of the high school
football
team, he
will visit the site to read about himself. If you
do an article about the local tire shop, they are
going
to mention
it to
customers. In addition, you can reproduce low cost
flyers (trade out for advertising space with local
print shop) and
use the
flyers to promote your business (visit www.connectionsplanet.com/33033 to see custom brochures).
- Do I need to learn “programming”? No. When you type in a story, you type it into a web form
and click
submit,
or you can type it in your favorite word processor and copy/paste
it into the form. There are only a few exceptions, but these
are minimal.
- How much money can I earn? That
is up to you. You can decide how much you want to charge
for ads on your site.
I suggest
that you keep the price low so you do not price
out
your local businesses, but it is up to you. In addition,
you
can sell ads for multiple zip codes, multiple page
or multiple month discounts or whatever… You can also sell “display
ads” such as an ad a business has already
created, or we can use their business card as an
ad (see www.connectionsplanet.com/99515 ). Be creative.
- Who are you? Is this for real? Is this a scam? There
are so many people on the Internet who are not what
the seem
to be or are only there to rip you off, so it is
healthy to question opportunities presented over the
web. Until
this site starts bringing in enough money for me
to give up my “day
job,” I am a licensed and bonded Security
Officer. I am the Senior Supervisor for a crew
of ten officers
for two manufacturing facilities. To get, and keep,
my job,
I had to go through a series of background investigations,
personality assessments, drug tests, and could
be asked to
repeat the drug test, or take a polygraph test
at any time. I could place my family at risk of
being put
out on the
street if I were proven dishonest.
My background ranges
from video production, managing a local origination (cable
TV) station, Public Relations for
a Public
Health District, Computer Network Designer And Installer,
Web Designer and Programmer, and Creative Director for an
International
Marketing and PR Firm. Oh yes, I also mowed lawns and started
my own lawn mowing service before I had my drivers license)
- What separates this site from the competition (radio,
newspaper, TV stations, their web sites, city sites, Chamber
of Commerce
sites, etc? The easy answer is you! Our
ZCM’s are
members of the community. ZCM’s are there to serve
their community. In addition, our zip code based sites
are populated with
local news… news that originates within your
zip code!
- Why? Why not? ( a little humor ).
